Wilkinson is pastor at Morning Star Church at the intersection of Big Creek and Upper Mud River Road near Hamlin. He is employed at Lincoln County…

CHARLESTON - In something of a break with tradition, the two West Virginia House of Delegate races affecting Lincoln County will have relatively small fields this year.

The filing period for the May 8, 2012 primary election closed at midnight last Saturday. This election cycle marks the first time that new precinct boundaries will be used for the state legislature’s lower chamber.

In Delegate District 22 just five candidates had filed as of Monday morning. The filing period ended at midnight last Saturday, but further filings could arrive by mail early this week.

In all, three Democrats filed. They are incumbent Delegate Josh Stowers of Alum Creek,…

HAMLIN - A series of failures in concrete septic tank installations was discussed in depth by members of the Lincoln County Commission in recent weeks.

The commission was briefed on the matter during the Thursday, January 19, 2012 regular session in Hamlin. The tanks were installed as part of the ongoing wastewater installations in the Left Fork watershed of the Mud River in Lincoln County. The project has been a collaborative effort between the Lincoln County Commission and number of federal and state agencies over the past number of years.

Project Director Ric MacDowell presented a case study to the commission during the January 19 meeting. In his…
